How to Keep Your Brain Healthy

Woman Meditating Our remarkable brain helps us to remember yesterday’s events as well as those from a decade ago. It helps us to organize tasks, make decisions and plan activities in an orderly fashion. We learn, and we consider proper behavior to live a productive life.

Our brain also acts as the conductor leading the orchestra of body movements. The most sophisticated computers cannot rival the endless functions of the brain. Will Artificial Intelligence, or AI, someday surpass the brain’s powers? Only time will tell. For now, continuing to keep the brain healthy is the best course of action.

Meet our Employee of the Quarter for Business Services!
 
Kelly M.– Admitting: Kelly has diligently taken on learning, keeping current on constant changes, and working the visit coordinator position all while continuing to perform at a very high level in her Patient Care Coordinator role. She brings a ceaseless effort to everything she does and bottomless positivity. Kelly makes every effort to represent SWDIC as a step above the rest.

1) How many years have you worked at SWDIC?
 
I have worked here for about 2.5 years.
 
2) What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
 
Seeing patients come in looking nervous, but leaving with a smile on their face.
 
3) Cowboys, Rangers, or Mavericks?
 
Rangers!
 
4) What’s #1 on your bucket list?
 
To go visit the Maldives.
 
5) If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
 
Other than the Maldives, Bora Bora, Spain and Italy.
 
6) What’s your favorite food?
 
I’m always in the mood for mac’n’cheese.
 
7) What would you do if someone gave you $100 today?
 
I would save it.
 
8) What’s your favorite color?
 
A Mediterranean blue
 
9) What are your hobbies?
 
Traveling and spending time with family

I don’t have one, but I’ve recently been listening to the band, The Boxer Rebellion, a lot.

I graduated from Plano East High School and graduated college from Ouachita Baptist University.

Meet our Employee of the Quarter for our Technical Division!

Crystal N. – Business Systems: Crystal has effectively juggled multiple system tasks to include but certainly not limited to being liaison for 3 server builds; successfully assisting with vendor development of new SWDIC technology to better serve our patients; the development and implementation of new clinical technology allowing SWDIC and CMI’s operations and patient flow to be more efficient; and supervising her own staff as they test the viability of the upcoming new RIS version. Crystal’s attitude and demeanor through all of this has been exemplary, never hesitating to stop and assist others with questions, and offering solutions to problematic issues; and tirelessly working with both Technical and Business Services staff. Her passion, knowledge and dedication are true assets to SWDIC.

March is National Nutrition Month

Girl eating healthy“Go Further With Food” is the theme for the 2018 National Nutrition Month. Each year the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics holds a campaign to showcase how to eat right regardless of your lifestyle.

Before you decide this doesn’t apply to you and your family, think again. Our lives are busy and it’s easy to lose proper focus on what we eat each day. After school activities, work, scheduling conflicts, and multitasking, in general, can all present challenges to maintaining a healthy diet.

Meet our Employee of the Quarter!

Renae M., RN – Myelogram Coordinator: She has really gone above and beyond, this last quarter especially. We were short staffed at the busiest time of the year. She came in on her days off, filled in with training our new nurse and on many occasions she took care of employee health related duties also. She has floated to all departments without having to be asked to check on her coworkers. She has been the person we can depend on most with the green slips while Dwayne was out. We know we can depend on Renae, not just as an outstanding nurse and employee, but also as a role model. We truly appreciate her being a great team player. Meet our Employee of the Quarter (Technical Services):

Darlene H. – Confirmations Supervisor: We are so very fortunate to have Darlene leading our Confirmations department. Her leadership in that department is an exceptional example of dedication, integrity, and teamwork. The confirmation department, under Darlene’s supervision, has brought about many positive changes to strengthen, grow and continue keeping the standards of high customer care at SWDIC.

Meet our Employee of the Quarter for Business Services!

Adoracion B. – Suite 102 Admitting: Hearing that the Medical Records Department was short staffed she voluntarily offered up her assistance to the File Room. After they needed supervisory and administrative approvals, Adoracion spent two days helping medical records through an acute crisis. What a demonstration of a true team player and going out of her way to be kind/supportive to other employees.
