About the Job:
The main responsibility of the position is to provide a safe means of reacting to emergency situations in the Imaging Center during all hours. The paramedic must be aware of the emergency preparedness protocol devised for the Imaging Center and must be able to fulfill ACLS obligations and responsibilities in an expert manner, dealing swiftly with medical emergencies through interaction with Emergency Department physicians, the radiologists of the Imaging Center, the employees of the Imaging Center, and the Medical Emergency Team of Texas Health Dallas.
In addition to responding to medical emergencies in the Imaging Center, the paramedic provides support to the technologist with regard to patient care. The paramedic must be very aware of the overall flow of responsibility with the technologists and aides in the MR/CT areas, and the paramedic must be sensitive to the stress and sudden changes occurring in order to function properly and efficiently.
Besides intervention in emergencies, the paramedic educates patients, facilitates procedures, is a resource person, and acts as a liaison between the patients and technologists. The main priority of the paramedic will be patient care and patient safety. Paramedic tasks will vary from day to day and hour to hour, as patients range from neonates to geriatrics. The paramedic must be flexible, as the patient is the paramedic’s primary concern.
Responsibilities:
- Based in CT or MR, all patients in the Imaging Center will be assessed by the paramedic as needed.
- Connects patients to monitoring equipment as necessary, ensuring the monitoring equipment is working properly, and documents the patient’s progress (before, during, and after the scan).
- Checks all emergency equipment daily and documents completion on proper forms. Emergency equipment includes wall and portable suction, oxygen, defibrillator, and seizure boxes. Familiar with emergency drugs and equipment available for emergency responsiveness and observes the protocol outlined in the emergency responsiveness policy.
- May give medications approved by the Physician Medical Director based on REMSA (Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority) approved medication list.
- Follows through on all possible iodine or gadolinium allergies by calling patients, recording their allergy history, pulling previous scans, and taking all information to the radiologist for recommendations, as outlined in the contrast medium allergy pre-medication policy.
- Reviews confirmation sheets with the patients prior to their exam, and becomes familiar with the patient’s allergies, medical history, and medications.
- Accurately assesses the patient’s status before, during, and after the examinations.
- Prepares patients for examination by escorting them to the appropriate area, getting them dressed, giving them oral contrast, and starting IV’s with accuracy, efficiency, and minimal number of incomplete sticks.
- Whenever possible, floats between the MR and CT areas to assist with patients.
- Speaks to parents of children requiring sedation for MR/CT, and explains the sedation process.
- Responsible for accurately assessing the patient’s condition and risks for reactions and/or any other health status changes. Attentive to patient needs and status during and after contrast administration.
- The paramedic coordinates nursing functions with the technologists to enable a smooth work flow. This includes preparing paperwork, labeling folders, sorting films, and checking for accurate documentation.
- Participates in staff meetings.
- Works with Supervisor and Compliance Committee to ensure the Compliance Program is followed.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

- Must be technically and emotionally competent in order to deal with stress effectively.

- Determines average claim entry, processes timeframes for assigned payers, and determines the status of unpaid claims beginning from the 45 th workday from the date of service.
- Responsible for using available tools to extract needed EOB’s or zero pay EOB’s when needed. Responsible for monitoring all aged patient balances and monthly patient collection calls for outstanding balances owed.
- Research medical or coding denials to process appeals and coverage guidelines.
Qualifications:
